With this movie I’m not really sure “coming of age” is the right term but those sort of vibes definitely resonate throughout.
Hailee Steinfeld does a solid job playing the 17 year old Nadine full of teenage angst. And the supporting actors as well all play solid roles – Blake Jenner, Kyra Sedgwick, Hayden Szeto and especially Woody Harrelson.
With movies like this it’s sometimes hard to relate because it’s been eight years since I was in high school and honestly a lot’s changed since then. And I guess you could say a lot of this movie screams “first world problems” but it still doesn’t diminish the fact that people do have these problems.
This movie isn’t going to be up for any awards or anything like that. It’s honestly one of those films you watch at night for some good laughs and some feels. At its core though, this movie is about learning to accept yourself, faults and all.
